Miss Jabberwock 1984

Being crowned Miss Jabberwock 1984 was truly magical. The pageantry and significance of donning the historical, regal red velvet robe culminated the experience of a lifetime. New friendships were born, my confidence as a young woman strengthened, and my aspirations for sisterhood in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. heightened. Thank you mom!

My Jabberwock experience is one that I will always remember. Although following in the footsteps of my sister was a little scary, I still enjoyed the entire experience. The time spent engaging with the Deltas, learning the dance routines, and participating in the various workshops was very rewarding.

I felt the experience was akin to being presented to society. It was the first time I wore a formal gown and had an escort. The “Through the Looking Glass” workshops focused on etiquette, proper behavior, and scholarship. The experience formed my opinion about sororities and wanting to be like “those Delta women.”

Participating in the Jabberwock was a real eye opener. The Deltas were so professional and very organized in our activities. One of my favorite activities was the college tour. It allowed us the opportunity to tour an HBCU campus and see a glimpse of what college life was all about. I am thankful for the opportunity to participate in such a rewarding competition.
